In Luxor but just barely

October 2nd - 11:38am
I arrived in Luxor but just barely. I had finally fallen asleep about 6 this monring. I watched the sun come up through the window of the train. It was so dirty you could hardly see out it though. The train ride was rough. Seated car, smelly, and freezing cold at first. By morning it wasn't as cold but still smelly. As I said, I finally got to sleep about 6. I woke up for a stop and asked a woman where we were, she said Dandara and that we still had a couple hours to Luxor. I went back to my seat and feel asleep. I woke to find the train stopped again. A man came into the compartment and asked for my ticket. I asked if we were in Luxor and he walked away. The couple across from me said they thought so. I quickly walked to the end of the car and asked another train attendant, yes. I run back to the seat and grab my bag and then ran back to the door. The guy opens it for me and I have to jump off as the train is moving away for the platform. Nice!

11:50am
I'm in my hotel as I type this. I walked over from the train station, less than a mile. It a beautiful, historic hotel but expinsive. I think they would wipe my nose if I sneezed. I'm right next to the Nile though and just about 100 yards from the Luxor tempel. I'm still so tired after that train ride. I may stay in Luxor another night just to recover. I'm certainly not looking forward to the trip back north. It may pay to get the sleeper car this time.

Luxor is beautiful though. It's a huge contrast form Cairo and so peaceful.
